Monochromatic Dream (End of Chapter 1)

It was one of those regular days to work. He had to get in line to get to the bus. He gets off the usual bus stop to get a cup of coffee. He had to wait to get to the entrance of the building when suddenly, he noticed something different. In his peripheral view, he saw a different color. It made him feel uneasy. In a blink of an eye, he saw blurry images flashed right in front of him. He couldn’t believe it. He felt his heart stop. He couldn’t drink his coffee.

The man behind him, who was wearing exactly the same as he was wearing: black suit, a black bag in his left hand, and a cup of coffee in his right hand, called his attention.

“Time to move.”

“Sorry. Thanks, man.” Was his reply.

“No problem.” Said the guy.

He looked at the people standing there waiting and he noticed that everybody was looking straight forward. Noone was looking to the left or to the right. He also noticed for the first time that all of them were dressed exactly the same way. He noticed that all of them were holding the black bag in their left hand and the cup of coffee on the other. As he was sipping his coffee, he noticed that no one else was sipping their coffee. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Suddenly, everything felt weird.

He started to look around. He saw people walking and passing by just like normal people.

He was nudged by the guy behind him to move again.

And then a cold wind suddenly blew his way and his eyes were redirected to where the wind came from. And then, he saw her. He saw a pair of gold gladiator sandals, a blue skirt and a white top. She was shimmering and shining in his eyes. He couldn’t see her face at first because of the sun behind her but when the shadow allowed it, he saw that she was looking straight at him.

At that very moment when their eyes met, he couldn’t tell what he was feeling. All he knew was he grew pale and felt so powerful at the same time. He had not seen such vivid, vibrant, beautiful colors for a very long time now, it would seem.

She stared at him as if she’s waiting for him to say something. But then something caught her attention so she looked to his left side and when she looked back at him, he saw her worried eyes.

Before he could even see what was going on at the direction where her eyes were, he was knocked down by a couple of men.

He opened his eyes. He felt the pain of his body but his mind was scanning the place where he is. He remembered the girl. He took a deep sigh.

“How are you feeling?” Asked a man’s voice.

He looked to the direction of the voice and realised he was a doctor.

“I’m feeling okay, doc. What happened?” He asked.

“Do you remember anything from what happened?” The doctor asked him back.

“No, actually. I didn’t see anything. All I remember was I was knocked over by some men before I could even see what was actually going on around me. Was there a fight? What did they say happened there?”

The doctor answered, “It’s not that important. Not sure what happened there either. But what’s important is you’re okay now. You sure you don’t remember anything there? Nothing unusual?”

“Nothing unusual. I really didn’t notice anything different there. I didn’t hear anything at all. Can I go now? I’d like to get back to work if I can.” He said.

“You can go, sure. You’re fine. But nothing? How come you didn’t notice anything?” The doctor enquired some more.

He grabbed his bag and as he opened the door he said, “Well, you can say that I was a bit distracted.” He answered with a smile.

“Oh? Distracted? How?” The doctor asked.

“I was distracted by a beautiful girl. Unbelievable how they can distract us.” He said shaking his head. “Thanks, doctor!”

“I see. You take care then.” Said the doctor.

As soon as he closed the door, the doctor called someone in the phone and said, “He remembered the girl.”

As he was walking down the steps of the building, a man called his attention. “Mr. Delaney? Mr. Daniel Delaney?”

“Yes, that’s me. Can I help you?” he replied.

“My name is Inspector Winston Roman, FBI. I was wondering if I could talk to you for a minute? We just wanted to ask you a few questions about what happened earlier today?”

“Sure. No problem. I don’t think I can tell you anything. But okay.”

“Step inside the vehicle, please, sir.”

“Can you describe to us what you saw earlier today on your way to work, sir?” Asked the inspector.

“Oh, well, on my way to work? I saw the line to get to the bus. I saw the line to get my coffee. I saw the line to get inside my work building. That’s what I saw on my work to work earlier this morning. If you’re asking if I saw anything before I was knocked over by a couple of dudes? Nope. I didn’t see or hear anything. I asked —”

“It’s interesting when you said you ‘saw the lines.’ Has that been unusual for you? Is this the first time you ever encountered standing in line to wait for the bus? For your coffee? To get to your work building?” The inspector interrupted him.

“It’s funny that you should ask but no. I seem to remember… that’s… how… it’s always… been.” His words were slowing down. Again, he was seeing blurry images flashing right before his very eyes. This time, he can hear laughters.

“Mr. Delaney? Sir? Are you alright?” Asked the inspector.

“Yes, yes. I’m alright. I just thought I remembered something else, that’s all.”

“You remembered something else earlier today?” Said the inspector.

He was quick to say, “No! No, something else. Something else that had nothing to do with what happened earlier. A dream last night, I think. It’s nothing. I’m sorry.”

“You sure, sir? You sure you don’t remember anything else this morning?”

“I remember seeing a beautiful girl.”

“What did she look like? She might be who we are looking for?” Said the inspector.

“What do you mean? What happened earlier today?” He enquired.

“Sir, there was a group of people who caused some trouble in the city today. We have a reason to believe that the girl you saw was one of them. Can you describe to me how she looked like? What was she wearing?”

“She was dazzling like the sun. She was wearing a blue skirt.”

The moment he said the word, blue, he noticed the inspector and the two other men in the room, looked at each other.

Finally, the inspector said, “Mr. Delaney, I have no further questions. Thank you. For your safety, may we ask you to continue to cooperate with us.” As the inspector was standing up, he said, “We would have to keep you here for a while.”

“What does that mean?” He asked. “You can’t keep me here. I have nothing more to tell you.”

The inspector made his way to the door and looked back at him before stepping out and said, “Sir, you’ve given us a valuable information. We need to make sure you’re protected. You’ll have to stay here.” Then he shut the door behind him.

“Hey, you can’t keep me here for seeing a beautiful girl! For mentioning blue!”

He couldn’t figure out what they said to him. He went to the mirror and demanded that he be released. But noone seemed to have heard him.

After five hours, a man entered and told him he was now being released.

He asked for explanation but he got none. He was so pissed with how he was treated but everyone around seemed deaf with all that he was saying.

He was walking on his way home. It was late in the afternoon when he saw the beautiful woman with her blue skirt. But she was fighting the men in black suit. It was more than ten men fighting the one beautiful woman with the blue skirt. He yelled, “Hey! What’s going on? What are you doing to her?”

“Danny!” She called out his name. He was stunned. He couldn’t believe what he heard.

“Danny! Look out!” She yelled again. And then she threw her sword and it hit the guy behind him who was about to attack him.

He was even more confused. “What?! What the hell is going on?!”

“Danny! Come on! Get my sword.” She called him.

She was able to kill everyone that attacked her.

They ran together.

“What’s going on? How do you know my name? Who are you?” Danny enquired while they were running.

She, in the meantime, just gave her a look of disbelief.

“Why are you looking at me like that? We need to get to the top. We have to go to the rooftop of any of these buildings.” He said.

In hearing that, she stopped. He looked back at her, confused.

“Why did you say that?” She asked.

“Said what?” He answered.

“Why did you say to go to the rooftop, Danny? Why?!”

Suddenly, they heard gun shots. The men were shooting at them.

“Get in there!” She shoved him.

They entered a small door of a building. And made their way to the rooftop.

“I don’t understand what’s going on? What have you done? Why are they shooting at us? Why do you know my name?” He asked.

“Don’t ask me, Danny. This is your dream.” She said very simply.

He stopped at the bottom of the stairs. And asked her, “What?”

*****Gun fires*****

She grabbed him, dragged him up the stairs while she said, “We don’t have much time, Danny. We have to go. You lead. I will follow. This is your dream. I wouldn’t know how to navigate here. You do what you have to do.”

They opened the door to the rooftop, exhausted.

“Now, what?” Asked Danny.

“You didn’t bring us here for nothing, did you?” She answered him.

“What?! What does that mean?”

“Let’s go, Danny! We’ll do the jump.” She said as they were running to the edge of the roof.

“What?! Are you crazy?!”

“This is what you wanted, Danny! Let’s go!”

She grabbed him as they jumped while the men in black suit were shooting at them.

“Noooooooo!!!” Cried Danny.

As they jumped, she spread her wings. They were so big, it looked as big as the two of them.

“Aaaaaahhh!!! We’re flying!!! Oh my God!!! We’re flying!!! You have wings!!! What kind of creature, are you?!”

She smiled and then asked, “What are you doing? Why are you grabbing my legs? Get to the right position, Danny.”

“In case, you haven’t figured it out, I don’t know what you’re talking about!!!”

She shook him off her legs.

“What?! No! No! No! You’re gonna get me killed!!!” And he was floating in the air.

And then she made a dive. She came from underneath to catch him and position him by her back so he can hold her wings.

“Oh God! Did you say this is my dream?” He yelled at her.

“Yes, Danny. This is your dream. You asked me to be here, remember? Look around, Danny. This is your monochromatic dream.” She replied.

“That is so weird.” He said to himself.

She smiled as they flew.

Starting in the Past (Chapter 1)

imageSome stories begin with beautiful descriptions of beautiful people or places. Others start with a truth universally acknowledged. The famous ones have the magic words, ‘Once upon a time…’ Still some have a really bad start.

Some stories are about heroes who are larger than life. Others are about daring adventures and swordfight. Still others would say that some of the best stories are about love and romance. This story, however, is nothing like that. This story is about everything else in between. This one, this story is something epic.

It starts in a dark place.

He has been here ever since he can remember. The water is cold here. It gets warm sometimes but never for a long time. He loves this place. Every single day it changes him and that thrills him. Everyday he can feel a bit of a sting here and there. Just a bit. Never something too painful. And whenever he feels a sting, he gives it a yawn as his response. Every once in a while though he can feel a touch, a kiss. He can hear a whisper. He doesn’t always understand. But he enjoys them all nonetheless. Everything is just as it should be until one day, he heard something he has never heard before.

One day, things sounded so different ly than the days before. He couldn’t believe it. This is something new.

“Kamen ne. Wol hentades ye ta yer embrade.” He heard the woman say.

He couldn’t make it out. “What strange words she said.” Observed the boy. “What could she mean?”

He has been here long enough to know that when he makes this certain move, the woman stops and holds him. So he did that move today. And then he heard her laugh.

“Heyz mmmavn lound.” She said with a laugh.

But this time he felt another touch. Someone familiar but new. He doesn’t understand it and yet he does at the same time.

Suddenly, everything went quiet. So did he. And then he heard the voice of excitement.

“Haw ley vi. Ham yer embrade.” Said the excited voice.

He thought, “Have you ever felt something strange and familiar at the same time? I wonder.. Has anyone felt like, you know something is so real but you can’t seem to grasp the truth of it?’

“Why does this feel so good and yet so weird at the same time? I wonder what’s going on outside this dark place that I love. I wonder why they can’t make clear their words.” He said to himself.

Days turned to weeks. Weeks turned to months. And that excited voice is becoming clearer and clearer every single time.

He didn’t notice when exactly or how but one day he realised he’s loved all the things this excited little voice tells him.

—- The Bright Day —-

Today is suddenly an entirely different day from any other day he ever had. Something tells him he needed to get out of this dark place he loves so much. The feeling is strong. He knows it in his heart it is finally time to go but somehow he can’t understand why he needed to go. Only that he had to go.

“Why I had to leave this place, I don’t understand. But somehow it feels so good to get out of here. I wonder where I’ll go. I wonder what I’ll do there. I wonder if the new place will be as lovely as this one.”

“There’s too many things going on outside this lovely dark little place. I think it’s going to be fun out there. I don’t know why but I want to find out. The things we don’t know are so exciting, aren’t they?” He assured himself.

He can hear a lot of voices. Most of them he doesn’t recognise. But they all seem very nice. And for the first
time ever, he caught a glimpse of it. A tiny little hole of something he’s never seen before. He can feel it calling him.

He said, “The force is strong on this one. I can’t deny it. It’s calling me. What’s it called? Why do I want to go after it?”

“Push some more, Janie!” A voice yelled.

And he felt the push.

Suddenly, a bright place. Something completely different from his old loved dark place.

He tried to utter words but all he could hear himself say was, ‘Huwaaahh!’

It felt kind of weird for him so he tried it again. In his mind he was saying, ‘What a strangely bright place this is! I’m happy to be here. Where’s the woman?’

But all he could hear himself say was, ‘Huwaaahh!’ Over and over again.

So he tried to tell everybody again, ‘Where is the woman? Where am I? What are you all doing? Why can’t you understand a word I say?’

He thought nobody heard him. What he didn’t know is everybody did. He just didn’t want to believe they understood him.
